EUROPE ON THE PATH TO CLIMATE-NEUTRAL CONTINENT

Proposal to fast-track the European Union's 2030 emission target heightens as the continent would be revising its emission target proposal next month. The current target which was to reduce pollution by 40 percent as approved in 2014 will be accelerated to about 55 per cent in 2030 to make Europe the first climate-neutral continent in the world. However, this would require the approval of the European Parliament and its various National Governments. Also, it is likely to create tension among the bloc's member states due to the national differences in energy sources, industrial strength and wealth. A Green member of the parliament who fans a 65 per cent goal for 2030 said, "The biggest challenge will be to get countries like Poland to embrace stricter climate targets and measures." The current target (that is, 55 percent) has a 20 per cent emission by the end of this year.
